Course Description

A course designed to study the concepts related to the maintenance of health, principles of safety, and the prevention of illness at the personal and community level. Three(3) semester credit hours.

Prerequisite Information

Prior to enrolling in this course, the student is responsible for completing English 01- (Writing) and English 04 (Reading). The student must have completed or be enrolled in English 03 (Writing) and English 05 (Reading) before or during this course. It is recommended but not required that the student complete English 107 (Advanced Reading) before or during this course.

Instructional Objectives

The following course objectives indicate major overall areas of course content:

A. To evaluate selected aspects of emotional health.

B. To learn ideas and facts related to the use and abuse of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco.

C. To learn basic information related to human sexuality and reproduction.

D. To identify sound personal and consumer health practices.

E. To learn information related to the major communicable and non-communicable diseases.

Grading Policies

A. Tests completed on or before due date will be credited an extra five points. Tests not completed within one week of due date will have a one point per day deduction.

B. The following point values determine the final grade.

1. Tests = 80%

2. Assignments=20%

3. Action Events=Extra Credit (10%)
