Course Description
An introductory course in physical education to acquaint the students with knowledge of physical activity as it relates to optimal healthful living.
Student Performance Evaluation
Establishment of a schedule of daily activities that fits one’s own needs.
Acquiring the habit of spending a portion of one’s leisure time in enjoyable physical activity
To assist in the development of endurance sufficient to meet the needs of the stresses of life and a little bit more.
To assist in developing strength enough to do normal life tasks without undue strain.
Methodologies
The instructional approach in the course will include independently instruction through activity experiences.

Hoeger & Hoger. Fitness and Wellness. Thomson/Wadsworth, 7th edition
Grading Policy
Half of the grade is based on chapter tests, and assignments. The other half of the grade is based on the application of that knowledge.
Knowledge of fitness and wellness is demonstrated by:
1. Taking test over each of the assigned chapters, 30%
2. Completing each of the assignments and or labs, 20%
3. Application of fitness and wellness knowledge: 50%
4. Active Participation- Participate in a three day per week cardio respiratory (aerobic) endurance program.
5. Participate in a 2 day per week muscular strength program.
6. Practice selective flexibility (stretching) exercises.
7. Keep neat and well documented records.
