Karen was born in Leesburg, VA. She spent a great deal of her early life living overseas in Switzerland and England. When she was in her teens her family moved from northern Virginia to rural southwestern West Virginia. She graduated from Union High School, Union, WV in 1980.
Karen then attended Marshall University from 1980 - 1983 receiving her Associate Degree in Nursing. She then proceeded to go to work at Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor VA.
After working for several years Karen pursued her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Nursing from Radford University and completed these requirements in 1993 and 1994.
Karen has worked in various areas of nursing including Medical Surgical, ICU/CCU, and Outpatient Surgery. Her other work experience includes experience in business management, Admissions, Information Services, and Meditech software.
Karen is married to Mike,and together have two children, Olivia, and Rebecca. Her interests include anything other than housework. She enjoys activities that involve the outdoors and animals. Currently she has 3 dogs two cocker spaniels and one corgi.
